For both of these videos Atsushi Nishijima collaborated with Jim Helton- some insights on what is attractive and inspiring to a photographer- like a girl's legs on the street. It's about those little moments that catch your eye and capture your attention for longer... Looking forward to more parts to the A study of legs video.
I discovered these videos through a the design director at a company I used to work for- with amazing taste I might add. Atsushi shot their lookbook, and that work is not on his site but when it goes online I will share! In the meantime I wanted to share with you Atsushi's interesting point of view.
Atsushi describes the way he "smells" a secret when a woman has her back or side to him, and this is why he enjoys capturing these angles in his photography. He said he could use feeling, but that smell captures it better- I love this quirky way of describing his instincts as a photographer, like a bloodhound who can track something long after it's gone he seems to use all of his senses-waiting for the perfect moment to capture a stunning photo.

With behind the scenes pics as seductive as these, need we say more? We loved our model Jaime and how she could go from innocent bride to vixen, but we must admit the right lingerie can help with that! We couldn't contain ourselves from sharing these amazing behind the scenes shots from today's shoot!
We hate to tease, but you know the finished images are going to top these of course, and did we forget to mention another video? Yeah, we had to tease it... but keep coming back for more!

We're excited to share the news with our friends in the New York/New Jersey area that Bardot Lingerie will be carrying the line this Spring! They even loved the photography so much they decided to feature one of our photos in an ad announcing their new owners Randee and Gina. These lovely ladies took over the boutique earlier this summer but their passion and eye are bringing great product to Millburn... Well, we might be a little biased there ;)
We loved the way this ad turned out, and congratulate them!
This gorgeous photograph of Johana is courtesy of Larry Baglio of course!
Click here to visit Bardot's site and to view more pictures of their store.
We look forward to bringing more news to you about this fabulous boutique which I had the pleasure of visiting in person! It's also located in a lovely scenic town in the heart of New Jersey, and definitely worth the trip if you're looking to pick up some special lingerie this holiday season!

BTS girl: How does one get into shooting lingerie? Did your high school counselor divulge this career to you? If not, (which I'm assuming because my teacher's laughed when I decided to pursue fashion) then how did you get into photography?
Larry: Well, I didnt actually get into photography until college. I was always artistic but, when ever I would draw something or create something musically, it never really came out the way I saw it in my head. It wasnt until I took photography that I ever created something that I actually liked. Since then its been an addiction! After college when I had my first studio, all I wanted to was be a photographer for Maxim magazine. There was just something about the female form that intrigued me. Its curves and softness yet at the same time having the ability to be strong and defining. It took me a little while but, I was finally published in the magazine a few times. It actually led a number of aspiring models to come and shoot with me that wanted to be in the Home Town Hotties competition.
BTS girl: So what kind of photography do you lean towards, what do you see yourself shooting a couple years from now?
Larry: I still shoot the sexy and alluring images but what my main passion has shifted towards couture fashion along with a lot of beauty shoots. I like it because of the ability to have the clothes tell a story and be editorial. On the other hand though, I don't like to limit myself to those two categories. I still also do an extensive amount of celebrity event coverage. One of my favorite events was the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT in January of '09. I was hired to cover the events by the Sundance Institute and it was a complete blast. I met a multitude of celebs including Sting who's music I have always enjoyed.
BTS girl: You have an amazing studio that we'll put backstage footage of up as soon as we can (soo busy), but tell us how long it took you to get there, in fashion we all pay our dues right?!
Larry: Thank you! I take pride in it and I feel its a representation of myself. The first studio I worked at was right after grad school in '04 at my first internship. I learned so much being in an actual studio as opposed to being in the classroom.
I didnt have a studio of my very own until October of '07. It was a huge place located across the street from the Empire State Building. Despite its size, it was very narrow and didnt allow for much movement on set once all the lights and equipment was all set up. It adds up quickly!! I moved into the studio I have now in September of '08 and I love it! Its a tad smaller but has a much better shooting area that really allows for some diverse shoots.
BTS girl: Any of those moments "paying your dues" stand out? funny, scary, wierd, awkward... please share!
Larry: I hated being an intern!! There were so many times my responsibilities for the day would include me going all over the city on foot, since the photographer I was interning for was kinda cheap, hanging flyers, dropping off portfolios and even going to the post office to buy stamps! But as you said, its all in the "paying your dues" in life that we all have to do. If I didnt have the internship, I wouldn't have learned so many different skills that became the basis for what I know today.
There was one time when things did get a little awkward. Towards the end of my internship, my mentor did a shoot with a new model. After his shoot, I asked her to come back another day so I could shoot her as well. It was a simple shoot, nothing fancy. After we were done, she approached me about paying me to do a shoot that would be more intricate and involved. When she came back for the 3rd time and my mentor saw her paying me, he flipped out! He felt I was taking business away from him when, in all actuality, it was the model who liked my work better than his. Needless to say, my internship ended the next day.
BTS girl: How did you hear about/get involved with BTS? (I mean, I know but share with our readers!)
Larry: I had first heard about BTS years ago during your first fashion show. My sister was one of the models walking in the show and she asked me to come and shoot it.
At the time I dont think I had any decent equipment so, all the pictures
came out pretty bad. haha. Also, I was completely amazed at how a young college student could have the determination to put together a complete fashion outside of a school venue and have it come out so amazing. Koudos to you for that Layla!
BTS girl: Thank you for all the amazing work people will get to see more and more of it as we launch the line!! Hope you'll shoot with us again!
Larry: No no no, thank you! It was truly my pleasure! The clothing you have designed was absolutely amazing! My girlfriend was actually asking me where she could get some of it! I would love to work with you through the years and help you get the shots you need that truly capture your hard work! Congrats on your launch!!!
Psst! We also have behind the scenes footage from the shoot with Lau, Larry, and Johana... going to be edited by our favorite vincent welch and we'll bring it to you right here! Stay tuned!

BTS girl: So how did you find out about Between the Sheets?
Bob: I met another photographer at a small fashion show I shot a couple months prior to BTS 2005. He emailed to tell me about BTS and I figured a lingerie runway show was worth the drive from Connecticut which is where I lived at the time.
BTS girl: What was your first BTS experience like, what did you take away from it?
Bob: It was only my second time shooting a fashion show (the first one lasted only 6 minutes) so I was still very concerned with the correct settings to use and unsure of myself. I was so focused on the technical aspects of shooting, that I barely noticed the girls. However, I was very happy with my shots and confirmed that it was something I was good at and enjoyed doing. And I made some friendships that continue to this day.
BTS girl: How long have you been interested in photography and what made you get started?
Bob: I've always liked taking pictures since I was a child and was fascinated with the ability to visually capture fleeting moments in time. I took a photo class in 8th grade, but I never really got into it as a serious endeavor until affordable digital SLR photography arrived on the scene many years later. An acquaintance was holding a small fashion show and needed photographers, so I used that as an excuse to buy a Nikon d70 and showed up. I loved it and continued doing other shows and costuming events. My visual attraction to a woman is guided in large part by the beauty and style of clothing she chooses to wear, so fashion photography is my way of celebrating and communicating my favorite expressions of that aspect of femininity.

BTS girl: What are some of your current projects?
Bob: I'm currently working on building a portfolio of product and jewelry shots to see if I can get a side business going in that realm. The jewelry aspect crosses over from fashion so there is some alignment in my interests, and I've come to enjoy the process of creating esthetically pleasing images. I have mother/daughter portait sessions for a girl-scout troop coming up, and I continue to cover fashion and costuming events.
BTS girl: How do you stay motivated, what do you do to keep yourself out there and shooting?
Bob: What is great about fashion and costuming is that there are endless variations on my favorite themes, so it continues to stay new and interesting from a photographic perspective. At the end of each year I write a summary of what I've accomplished and set some goals for myself for the following year. This year, I'm focused on protecting my work, deriving some income from my services, while continuing to increase my creative & technical skills. Living and working in NYC and buying a new piece of gear usually helps to find new perspectives as well.
BTS girl: Any funny stories about the shows, backstage bloopers or funny moments that stand out?
Bob: The first year, I had trouble finding the venue due to poor signage and nearly went home. I was standing on a street corner wondering what to do when a bunch of girls came by placing cards all over the place. After they passed, I took a look at one and it was an ad for BTS, so I followed them to the venue.
Another year, the venue held a male striptease show immediately before BTS. Hopefully nobody got there too early and was confused.
BTS girl: Would you shoot another BTS show if we started them again?
Bob: Of course
BTS girl: Random Question of the Day: What’s your favorite time of year and why?
Bob: Right now, the later half of spring. I can finally go for long walks without being chilly or getting too hot, sit outside and read, and watch women look their best in the latest fashions.
