I've been following a debate that was started recently on The Lingerie Post over a clear "copycat" garment featured in this story. We as a brand are obviously biased, but maybe not in the way you'd expect. I absolutely understand the inspiration and sharing of ideas that takes place between designers that starts trends and gets people shopping. Now there are cases where a design is a clear copy/knockoff and in some cases these copycat designs can be detrimental to the small firm with an inability to spread the word about their style and collections before a bigger faster fashion house, but in many cases the originator can use their unique lifestyle perspective and "signature look", so that no one else can truly replicate their "brand aesthetic". To keep it short you can duplicate a garment, but you can't duplicate a brand. The real trick as a designer and entrepreneur is to find a way to market and create a brand that has a fingerprint that goes deeper than the clothing.
I came across this video a month or two ago and thought it was a great time to share.

For both of these videos Atsushi Nishijima collaborated with Jim Helton- some insights on what is attractive and inspiring to a photographer- like a girl's legs on the street. It's about those little moments that catch your eye and capture your attention for longer... Looking forward to more parts to the A study of legs video.
I discovered these videos through a the design director at a company I used to work for- with amazing taste I might add. Atsushi shot their lookbook, and that work is not on his site but when it goes online I will share! In the meantime I wanted to share with you Atsushi's interesting point of view.
Atsushi describes the way he "smells" a secret when a woman has her back or side to him, and this is why he enjoys capturing these angles in his photography. He said he could use feeling, but that smell captures it better- I love this quirky way of describing his instincts as a photographer, like a bloodhound who can track something long after it's gone he seems to use all of his senses-waiting for the perfect moment to capture a stunning photo.

I think I have found my inspiration for my next season- I've been obsessed with stop-motion animation and I've always had a soft spot for all things ye old curiosity shoppe like... so I had to share this amazing and inspiring video called "Lost Things" featuring music by A Fine Frenzy. Remember a couple of weeks ago we mentioned an upcoming event started by Improv Everywhere called "No Pants Subway Ride", well we're following up with their video of this year's pantsless subway riders who braved one of the coldest days in NYC to be a part of this!

We asked the ladies and gents behind the scenes what they wear Between the Sheets! After all we're starting a line of lingerie and loungewear. We must know!!
Well, if you trust what everyone here says (these are lingerie designers saying they don't wear anything to bed!?) we may be in trouble! Well, we're heartened by the girls who said cami's and shorts because we've got those! I'm sure we've even got some items they didn't think of!
