Fabric and Garment Care
Wash and Care Instructions:
When in doubt always refer to the attached care label tags, required by law, so that you can properly care for your clothing and extend its life.
In addition here are some other tips:
Intimates of any quality have delicate materials that beg to be washed in cold water, and preferably by hand.
Elastics and stretch fabrics/laces both have spandex, which is damaged and deteriorated by heat. Straps can warp and fabric can lose its luster and ability to return to its original shape becoming loose and sometimes even discolored. So avoid washing in hot water or placing intimates in the dryer. Air dry on flat surface if possible.
Heirloom quality intimates require even more attention. Silk or lace appliqué pieces often come with special care instructions.
Lace should never be washed in a machine as its delicate holes and openings can be torn or pulled in the cycle.
Silk garments often have dryclean only labels. In between cleanings to press silk properly you need to spritz fabric with water while pressing to eliminate hairline wrinkles that will stay even under high heat.
Always use a press cloth when ironing intimates, this provides a barrier between the heat of the iron plate and the garment and reduces the risk of burning or discoloring, while reducing the chance that any gunk on your iron will rub off on what you are pressing.
Storing Bras and Panties:
Bras should be stacked within each other; cups should always remain right side out. Resist the urge to flip one cup into the other, this can warp/wrinkle molded cup bras permanently.
Bra and Panty sets should be worn and washed together to prevent one item fading more quickly than the other.
Delicate special occasion items can be wrapped in tissue paper and stored in water/pest repellant bags or containers.
Lingerie boutiques usually carry scent satchels, which are a nice way to cheer up your intimate’s drawer.
Extending the life of your intimates:
Follow the wash instructions on the garment and tips mentioned here.
Do not wear the same bra every day, this will stretch out the elastic much faster than if you switch bras. The elastic needs to return to its original size, and by wearing a bra continuously you prevent that and it gains a new memory of the size it has been stretched to. Another reason to fill up your lingerie drawer so you can rotate like the rest of your wardrobe!
Love and care in handling, wearing, and storing your intimates will help them last longer!
