Materials

To keep it brief (pardon the pun) we are mentioning the materials most commonly used in intimate apparel.

Lace- Stretch and non-stretch laces are luxurious and elegant intimate apparel fabrics. Depending on the pattern lace can be subtle or a statement. Stretch versions are more common in today’s intimates, and are normally matched with stretch materials when used in combination. Likewise when non-stretch or rigid laces are used they are paired with non-stretch materials.

Rib- A classic underwear material that features rows of raised jersey and reverse jersey. Most commonly see in men’s undertanks.

Jersey Knits- the classic “t-shirt” fabric a jersey can vary in appearance based on the fiber it is comprised of or the weight. Heavier weight jerseys are used for loungewear, and lighter weight jerseys like microfibers are used for seamless or lightweight underwear that can disappear under clothes.

Charmeuse- an opaque satin with a high luster surface and matte back.

Chiffon- a sheer extra-lightweight material

Microfiber- refers to any material made from extra-fine synthetic fibers, usually a stretch knit
