Fall in the Hudson Valley is one of our favorite times of year. Brilliant fall colors as the leaves change, apple picking, and pumpkin farms for Halloween. The Hudson Valley is full of farm stands, but we often drive a little farther to the Catskills for dramatic pumpkin towers, artistic pumpkin displays and sculptures, and for fall hikes in the mountains. We aim to support local farmers instead of buying pumpkins from grocery or big box stores.

Taking a trip to the Catskills to visit a pumpkin patch has become a regular tradition, to bring back an assortment of pumpkins for decorating our home, and to stock up on butternut, acorn, and other squash to store and use during the winter.

Know Before you Go
Best selection can be found in September before the Halloween rush.
- Most Pumpkin Farms in the Catskills are open from September through the beginning of November (although some farms not focused entirely on pumpkins may have other seasonal produce for sale and open at different times)
- Seasonal weather or early frosts can impact the timing of the season
- Best selection can be found in September before the Halloween rush
- Some Catskill pumpkin farms have seen recent retirements, with the owners moving on to other things. We have shopped from farms in Hamden, NY in the past, but always good to check social media or farm websites before venturing out to check hours and operating status.
