Now we live just blocks away from this little easter egg of a NYC spot- the Socrates Sculpture Park is nothing so special as it’s name implies… the sculpture is absent half the year and the park always seems like it’s teetering between an open grass lot and something more. We commend the city and the organizations that are trying to brighten up this otherwise dirty little side street. It really has so much potential! I hope they keep doing events like these and that the park’s sculptural exhibits can benefit from it.
Last night we attended a viewing of Goddard’s Contempt with Bridgette Bardot. The film wasn’t as inspiring as it’s lead actress to me, but that’s often the case. The way she moved and acted in the movie with a coquettish attitude was really lovely. I feel like there is just a different quality to actresses of the old silver screen, that we really don’t get with our Hollywood crowd today. The movie was much slower paced than modern films, and the plot a little thicker and not so transparent– this was definitely a heavy movie. The mix of languages French, Italian, and English with subtitles was also unexpected. I love that NYC exposes you to so many new things, for free!
