Gift Guide – Holiday 2010 picks from Guilty Pleasures

There are some little secret addictions we must give into in the end… and lingerie is one of those sweet guilty pleasures that is no harm in indulging yourself in. It is an everyday luxury that we can afford to enjoy. A little bit of heaven when we place luxurious materials right up against our skin… We are delighted to have Petra Bellejambes from Guilty Pleasures Lingerie Blog, a writer with passionate opinions about style and lingerie. Guilty Pleasures is the daily hub for lingerie mavens around the world. Latest news, brands, boutiques, collections, campaigns and promotions from the lingerie catwalk, they cover it all, in an endeavor to show that beautiful lingerie is one of those everyday luxuries every woman should indulge in. Well, clearly we agree with them!

Oh, so much to love about the holiday season, and too little time to really enjoy it with. You know there are a few people on your gift list that you can take care of in a jiffy, and really a jiffy is all you have. Books and gadgets, maybe a nice top here, or (gasp!) a gift card there, but there are a few special people in your life who you really want to show a little more thought for, yes?

Special people deserve special attention, and nothing says special quite like Lingerie. For me, the big trick with Lingerie Holiday gift giving, trickier than getting the size right, is getting the tone right. Whether you are in the room when the gift is opened or not, other people will be. And it is just not polite to make strangers blush.

So, I look for lingerie that says happy and cool and maybe just whispers sexy and hot. When you put that vibe together with a completely unique brand (you know what I mean, the pink striped box is just too … everywhere) you can get the tone right, and really give a loving, thoughtful gift to someone special. Here are some of my picks from the completely gift-able BTS line:

 

For: My (saintly) Mom – Well Played cardigan Dawn

Mom loves cozy, and she lives in place with chilly winters. Pretty, comfy things that you can still answer the doorbell with always work. This gorgeous cardi will pack small and light when winter gets too much for her, and she visits my warm home later on this winter.

 

 

My (alpha-shopper) Best Bud– Come Out and Play Bralette & Boyshort Combo

Fast and fearless, my tall, skinny fashion maven friend says life is too short to wait for help. She is enough of a maniac to run from the fitting rooms back out to the racks half dressed to hunt down the smaller size. She won’t think twice wearing these.

 

 

 

My (favorite) Client –Well Played yoga pant Bamboo

I’d have less shopping money without her, or work that was borderline boring. She is a fitness nut, which explains her crazy energy levels, and always shows a little quirky flair in what she wears. She will love the ruching detail on the waistband of these cheeky play pants.



 

 

My (prettiest Postie on the planet) USPS Delivery Lady – Playdate Pant Shade

She has a 1000 watt smile and a poly/cotton uniform (the poor lamb). After a long hot day in coarse corporate gear how about something sleek and cool and finally girly to chill out in?

 

And For: Me Me Me – Playdate Babydoll Midnight

A little silk goes a long way with me. So do sexy mesh details, the subtle things that say a garment is made with love. I am running an experiment intended to determine whether you can have enough black lingerie, between the sheets or between meetings. So far, no way.

Gift Guide – Holiday 2010 picks & note from BTS designer

A personal retrospective:

It’s been almost two years since I left my corporate design job to start pursuing my dream, and I have to pinch myself by how far we’ve come since then. I have spent many hours coming up with this brand, creating our product, marketing it to stores, inspecting it at the factory, and promoting it with anyone who will listen. It is a labor of love, and sometimes it is easy to loose track of balance and life when working 24/7, so I am happy that this is our first holiday season as a brand, because I have been able to look back at the past two years and gain focus for where I would like to take the brand- I have NO clue how we will get there but I have a feeling that things will always work themselves out…

As part of a vow to myself to not just put my business out there, but to put myself out there as well, I’ll be writing from my own point of view more here on our blog. I have been remiss to take credit for everything BTS because in fact I wanted you to see the designs first and not me. I wanted people to see a brand, but I have come to realize even though Between the Sheets does not bare my name I am it and it is me. Yes, it is just me and my boyfriend Josh. We pack, we ship, we sell, we email. I design, I make samples, I make lookbooks, I update our website and social media. He tracks our inventory, he steams samples on photoshoots, he now photographs our collections. I cast models, do hair and makeup, edit photographs… and the list goes on. No, we are not a big corporation, and no we do not have a huge marketing budget and graphic design team!

I know many of you might know a bit from visiting our blog and seeing JUST US behind the scenes, but we’re going to put ourselves out there, let you know what a struggle this is to start a manufacturing business dedicated to doing things the right way. Made in the USA, made sustainably, made with love… these are the things I stand for, and so too does my business.

This season I will finally get to share BTS with friends and family, so here is my personal Gift Guide, a bit of myself and my thoughts… and it’s just the beginning!

For my newly engaged friend — Come Out & Play Bralette and Boyshort in Bamboo
I know that traditional trousseau lingerie is ivory or white, lacy or racy, but I really think there is something so sweet AND sexy about this robin’s egg blue! I know with a pair of pink slippers and maybe under a hotel robe this set would be super sexy. It’s youthful and fun, flirty and charming, and not so traditional. I’d probably include a feather tickler or some other pink accessories with this at the bachelorette party!

Yes, I design lingerie but I definitely wear what I like more often that what my boyfriend likes! Shame, because there are so many of my own designs that I could just slip into on occasion that would certainly be as much of a treat for him as for me, and my choice would be this silky slinky specimen of seduction… because I love it and I designed and I should wear it for what it was intended! Time to raid our samples…

For my gardening Aunt in Cali— Well Played Cardigan in Bamboo
My aunt loves to garden, she has a huge backyard and spends a lot of time outdoors, but in the southern California sun that isn’t always good for your skin, and when gardening you want to make sure you’re covered and still able to move and work without being exposed to the elements of dust, pollen, sun etc, so I am sending her this sweet cardigan in bamboo to accent her green thumb with some green style! The modal will breathe easy in the heat, the sleeves are easy to push out of the way when getting down in the dirt but can be pulled forward to protect her arms whiles she pruning roses and the front can tie up to stay out of her way when she needs it! Perfectly groomed garden, perfectly groomed gardener- a match made in heaven!

For my friend C — Playdate Babydoll in Dawn
Well, C is in a new relationship… not sure if they’re officially calling it that yet but either way, she has a new guy around and I think this piece is perfect for a fliratious date night out or a sweet evening in. It’s soft to the touch which encourages affection and romance, exactly what a budding love needs! It’s also sexy enough that it might tip the scales towards full-fledged relationship, and judging by how happy she’s been of late that cannot be a bad thing!

For Myself— Well Played Cardigan in Shade
I love this cardigan! I work from home mostly, our little design studio can go from hot to cold in a minute with the way steam heat is in these old buildings, so I love having this cardigan on hand to throw on when it gets chilly. It’s heavy weight so it’s perfect for those chilly fall days, and also modest and perfect for when I need to answer the door but don’t want to look like I’m rolling out of bed in my pjs! If I have to run I just throw on a pair of jeans with this and I’m ready to go. And if I need to do the dishes or tidy up I love that the skinny sleeves stay up when pushed up to your elbows… I literally live in this cardigan in every color, it is my go to piece!

The Lingerie Post is the home for lingerie and underwear fanatics on the web. Read and respected by industry insiders and consumers alike, they seek to provide current information on everything from designers and brands to sales and stores. Their readers are active participants in sharing their love of lingerie in their forums. From the world’s most famous designers and brands to new, up-and-coming talent, lingeristas frequent TLP for all the latest news to stock their drawers with the prettiest of things.

I first met Krista when she attended our 3rd Between the Sheets Fashion Show in 2007, and since she has been a great supporter and one of our biggest fans! You might be curious what makes her advice so meaningful that we wanted her contribution to our gift guides- WELL she started her own blog, Life in the Girl Lane, and like many we know in the lingerie blogosphere it started with a insatiable appetite to share information, specifically about lingerie! She came across TLP when it was first launched, and let’s just say it was love at first “site”. Her passionately persistent tips on new brands and lingerie news led them to invite her to be a writer! Within that year she was covering the opening of Journelle in NYC, meeting Elle Macpherson, and attending our BTS Fashion Show, and this weekend it will officially be 4 years of her writing for them! We’re wishing her and the Lingerie Post a very happy anniversary, because few relationships make it this far and bear this much creative fruit!

With her proximity to New York and all of the brands and market events Krista has her finger on the pulse of the lingerie industry. She is often the first on the web to share exciting news from existing brands and also to give TLP readers their first look at up and coming brands like ourselves! I can’t imagine a lingerie world without The Lingerie Post or Krista, and I’m honored to be able to take a turn on the other side of the table and share her story and her 2010 holiday gift picks with us!

I know my sister-in-law would adore the Playdate robe! She’s a busy working mom of 3 very active kids who wants to be comfortable, but needs to be stylish. When you travel as much as my cousin does (both for her job as a consultant and for her own pleasure), you spend a lot of time on airplanes and airports. While those places aren’t known for being plush, she can still be cozy and comfortable curling up on her long flights.

After a few years of marriage, it can be a challenge to keep the spark alive (so I hear from my friend…). I know she is always seeking ways to rekindle the flame so she’d adore adding this babydoll to her collection. Whether she’d wear it for sleep or for play, it would match either occasion.

 

For Myself! – Playdate racerback tank in Midnight

Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m both sugar and spice so anything I can wear that represents those two (and sometimes dueling) aspects of my personality is going to be a winner! For me, the Racerback Tank epitomizes sophisticated, sexy, and sweet. It shows just enough skin to turn heads, but leaves plenty to the imagination. Most of my tops are black so I’m always looking for a chance to mix it up and Shade is the perfect color to do so. I can already imagine pairing the tank over my favorite skinny jeans for a night of painting the town red!
